Summary of the contracting process

Nuclear Waste Services Limited, a sub-central government public authority based in Calderbridge, Seascale, United Kingdom, is currently in the tender stage of a procurement process titled "Waste Disposal Services to Permitted Landfill." This open tender, utilising an open procedure method, aims to establish an unlimited supplier framework for waste disposal services covering a three-year period initially, followed by a second framework potentially extending up to five years. The key deadlines include the tender submission closing on 18 June 2026, enquiries closing by 28 May 2026, and the eventual award expected by 11 November 2026. This procurement primarily targets the category of services, specifically focusing on the lifecycle management and disposal of non-radioactive and radioactive waste below the UK Low Level Waste (LLW) threshold within the UK.

The procurement offers significant business growth opportunities for firms capable of waste management and disposal, including those specialising in hazardous waste treatment and radioactive waste services. Businesses that excel in technical service delivery and can demonstrate social value in their operations are poised to benefit from this framework, with 70% of the evaluation based on quality and social value criteria. Suitable enterprises include both SMEs and larger corporations capable of managing waste lifecycle operations, such as excavation, demolition, sampling, and analytical services, as well as waste packaging and transport. The open framework nature allows for ongoing opportunities to engage in scheduled and ad-hoc projects, providing a robust platform for suppliers looking to expand their footprint in the public and private sectors. The framework is structured to accommodate both competitive tendering and direct awards, offering flexibility in engagement methods.
