Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process for the Provision of Occupational Health Services, conducted by Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council, spans multiple stages starting from tender to award. As of 12th January 2026, this process has been completed, focusing on providing vital occupational health services across the region identified as UKD73. The tender, encompassing services such as occupational health advisory, physiotherapy, and counselling, followed an open procurement method described as a competitive flexible procedure. The procurement aimed to serve the essential service needs of Sefton Council's diverse employee base, which can number up to 8,000, including staff from schools and local organisations. The final contracts, signed in December 2025, are scheduled to commence on 1st January 2026, with the possibility of renewal up until 2029 based on satisfactory performance and budget compliance.

This tender presents significant opportunities for business growth, particularly for service providers within the health services sector. With a structured procurement process, the tender is segmented into three key lots, allowing firms to bid for specific areas of expertise, whether it's an occupational health physician or therapist services. Successful bidders like WORKFORCE WELLBEING LTD, PEOPLE ASSET MANAGEMENT LTD, and LISTENING EAR (MERSEYSIDE) reflect a mix of small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and larger firms, showcasing the diverse scale of opportunities available. Businesses specialised in occupational health, physiotherapy, or counselling services, particularly those offering innovative and flexible solutions, are well-positioned to benefit from contracts that have a significant total value exceeding £1 million across all lots. This structured approach ensures that businesses can tailor their proposals to meet the specific needs of the Sefton Council, thereby enhancing their service delivery and expanding their footprint in the public sector.
