Summary of the contracting process

NEUPC Ltd established the Sustainable Furniture Solutions framework for customers across the UK. It covers furniture supply and installation, refurbishment, repair, re-upholstery, redistribution and re-use, including an optional e-marketplace. The 12 lots cover office and office-style furniture; student accommodation, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom furniture; beds and mattresses; AV/IT-integrated furniture; smart and secure lockers; lecture-theatre, auditorium and arena seating; café, indoor and outdoor social-space furniture; specialist ergonomic furniture; and associated design, space planning, drawings, project management and after-sales services. Circular-economy requirements include repair, re-use, recycling and take-back of replaced furniture. The framework is available to members and partners of eight university and education purchasing organisations, with delivery throughout the UK.

The open competitive flexible procedure is complete and the framework contracts were signed on 9 July 2026. Awards were made on 24 June 2026 for lots 1–8 and 10–12; lot 9, front-of-house catering and café furniture, has reached final status without an awarded contract. Awarded values are: lot 1 £7m; lot 2 £1m; lot 3 £300m; lot 4 £18m; lot 5 £10m; lot 6 £8m; lot 7 £1m; lot 8 £10m; lot 10 £2m; lot 11 £1m; and lot 12 £2m, all gross and estimated. The framework runs from 15 July 2026 to 14 July 2028, with an extension option to 14 July 2030. Price counted for 60% and technical or quality for 40%. Awards went to multiple suppliers on each awarded lot, ranging from two to 13 suppliers.

This procurement shows sustained UK-wide demand from higher-education customers for both standard and specialist furniture, with substantial interest from SMEs as well as larger manufacturers, distributors and installers. Credible future competitors will need a focused product range matched to their chosen market: circular refurbishment and redistribution; office furniture; residential accommodation; beds and mattresses; integrated AV/IT furniture; lockers; specialist seating; social-space furniture; outdoor furniture; or ergonomic products. Relevant capability in design, space planning, installation, repair, re-upholstery, logistics, take-back, recycling and after-sales support will strengthen a proposition. Suppliers should be able to manage framework relationships, provide accurate quarterly management information, respond to customer issues within 24 hours, report social value annually and demonstrate reliable supply-chain payment performance. The lot structure allows specialist firms to compete alongside broad furniture businesses.
