Summary of the contracting process

Staffordshire County Council has concluded the procurement process for a contract titled "Contract for the provision of a treatment service for street sweeping waste". The industry category is refuse and waste related services, with the procurement method being an open procedure. The contract involves the process and treatment of street sweeping waste, aiming for zero waste to landfill. It encompasses multiple lots, covering various councils across Staffordshire. The award phase took place with the contracts officially signed on 20th January 2026, and the services will commence on 1st March 2026, running until 29th February 2028, with possible renewal extensions until 2032. Two key suppliers, BIFFA Waste Services Limited and SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK Ltd, were awarded different lots in this contract.

This contract presents significant opportunities for large waste management companies with capabilities in processing and recycling street sweepings. Businesses that can offer innovative approaches to maximise recovery of reusable and recyclable content and demonstrate a capacity to assist in achieving zero waste objectives will be well-positioned to compete. It also opens avenues for partnerships and collaborations with local councils, potentially enhancing the growth of networks and service portfolios for established and large-scale waste management organisations looking to expand their footprint in the Staffordshire region.
