Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence in the United Kingdom is currently at the planning stage of a procurement process for a contract titled "Overseas Health Visitor & Midwifery Services." This initiative falls under the industry category of community health services and services provided by midwives and aims to deliver comprehensive health visitor and limited midwifery services to a population at risk in strategic military bases and globally dispersed Defence personnel. The key locations where services will be delivered include Brunei, Germany, Kenya, Gibraltar, Canada, Nepal, Falkland Islands, Saint Helena, Italy, and Belgium. The procurement process involves a preliminary market engagement notice published on 16th September 2025, with an engagement session scheduled for 13th October 2025. The contract is valued at approximately £5.8 million (net) and spans a contract period from 1st January 2027 to 31st December 2031, with potential extension until 2033.

This tender represents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in health services, particularly those with experience in community health and midwifery services. SMEs and voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCSEs) are encouraged to participate, as the procurement process is designed to accommodate their capabilities. Businesses well-versed in adhering to UK NHS standards, and with the capability for global service delivery, would find this tender especially suitable. Participation in this contract not only allows for business growth through a substantial multi-year government contract but also where improved or new service solutions might have a lasting impact on the health outcomes of Defence personnel and their families abroad.
