Summary of the contracting process

The Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has recently awarded a contract under the Direct Award Process A due to an urgent situation, specifically under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) regulations 2023. This contract is for the provision of physiotherapy and podiatry services at HMP Ranby, located in the UKF1 region. The procurement process, bypassing the usual call for competition, is justified as an urgent necessity to avoid risks to patient or public safety. The award stage was completed with the signing of the contract on 1st October 2025, and the total contract value is £31,817.45. The procurement is classified under health services within the services category.

This contract presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in healthcare services, specifically those providing physiotherapy and podiatry. The procurement has been completed as a limited process, which typically favours businesses that can respond quickly and efficiently to urgent healthcare needs. Companies capable of maintaining service quality under stringent time constraints, such as Premier Physical Healthcare, the awarded supplier, are well-suited to compete in similar future tenders. This can enhance relations within the public sector, thus potentially opening doors to further opportunities in healthcare service provision.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The Trust considers that an award must be made urgently, the reason for the urgency was not foreseeable by and not attributable to the Trust due to the Emergency Award by NHS England of the Head Contract for Healthcare Services at HMP Ranby to the Trust. Delaying the award of the contract to satisfy the requirements of the PSR would likely pose a risk to patient or public safety. The award term reflects the novation of existing supplier subcontracts from the incumbent on existing terms to ensure the continuity of healthcare services during the mobilisation period of less than three-months. The period of mobilisation would not have allowed the Trust to identify alternative provision for the subcontracted service. The relevant authority has awarded this contract under the Direct Award Process A - Urgent situation (F03) under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) regulations 2023. For the avoidance of doubt, the provisions of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 do not apply to this award
