Summary of the contracting process

The Gateshead Borough Council is currently in the tender stage for establishing a Light Touch Framework (LTF) aimed at providing residential and nursing care services for ageing individuals in the Borough of Gateshead. This procurement process falls under the health and social work services category and is set to provide a framework specifically for care homes that are CQC registered, fully constructed, and operational within Gateshead. Key dates include the tender period ending on 27th July 2026 with an award period concluding on 1st September 2026. The contract will commence on 5th October 2026 and run until 5th October 2031. The procurement method is open, allowing all qualified providers to submit their bids through the OPEN platform, with submissions to be made in English.

This tender presents significant business opportunities particularly for providers of residential and nursing care services located in the Borough of Gateshead. The framework allows for care homes specialising in various resident needs such as general care, physical and learning disabilities, mental health conditions, and palliative care to compete. The LTF represents a substantial growth opportunity, with a contract value up to £250 million, providing long-term partnerships through a framework agreement without the need for reopening competition once providers are accepted. This is an excellent opportunity for both established homes and newcomers in the industry to secure contracts with a reputable council and participate in the provision of critical health services in the local community.
