Summary of the contracting process

The London Borough of Camden has awarded a contract for specialist energy solutions services to support its Retrofit at Scale (RaS) Project. The procuring authority is targeting the industry category of construction-related services, focusing on energy solutions for a significant housing improvement initiative in London. The procurement stage is currently at the award phase, with a contract period set to begin on 2nd December 2025 and concluding on 30th April 2026. This direct award contract was necessitated by the pilot nature and urgency of the project, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and lower energy costs across the housing stock. The project involves deploying solar photovoltaic installations and battery energy storage systems across 2,000-3,000 homes, marking a pioneering approach in this field under legal framework 2023/54 of the UK Parliament.

This contract presents substantial opportunities for businesses involved in energy solutions and sustainability. The involvement with such a high-profile project can be a significant boost for specialist firms that possess expertise in renewable energy systems and related construction services. SMEs with the capability to engage in multidisciplinary functions, including grant-compliant energy surveys and innovative designs, stand to benefit from such opportunities. The project’s pioneering approach underscores the need for businesses that can handle complex, innovative projects and are equipped to provide long-term asset maintenance and regulated billing services. This engagement aligns with growth strategies focusing on green energy solutions and sustainability within the public sector.
