Summary of the contracting process

The Western Riverside Waste Authority (WRWA) in London is currently in the planning stage for a significant procurement process regarding future municipal waste management arrangements. This process, represented through a Preliminary Market Engagement Notice, aims to engage with potential suppliers in the waste management industry to assess their capacity and interest in handling waste streams under WRWA's remit. The tender, classified under refuse and waste-related services, includes market engagement activities scheduled until 20 February 2026, with clarification questions encouraged by 30 January 2026. This phase focuses on understanding the market's readiness and infrastructure to support WRWA's needs, providing a foundation for the subsequent procurement strategy aligned with the principles of the Procurement Act 2023.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses, especially those specialising in waste disposal and treatment, to expand and secure long-term engagements. Companies, including SMEs and VCSEs, capable of delivering innovative waste management solutions or possessing the infrastructure to support increased capacity, will find this engagement particularly beneficial. The involvement in this Preliminary Market Engagement phase could offer businesses insights into future procurement strategies by WRWA, allowing them to tailor their capabilities and proposals to meet the authority's precise requirements when the formal procurement process launches in the future. Participation is not mandatory for future bids, yet it provides valuable opportunities to influence the development of WRWA's procurement strategy and potentially establish a competitive edge.
