Summary of the contracting process

The Courtauld Institute of Art is undertaking a significant redevelopment project at its Strand Campus, London, focusing on the Construction Management of its East Wing and linking to adjacent buildings. The procurement process has progressed to the award stage as of 11th June 2026. The competitive tendering process, conducted as an open and flexible procedure, has concluded with contracts awarded to commence on 24th June 2026 and spanning until August 2028. The project falls under the construction management services industry category, with an anticipated contract value of approximately £42 million, exclusive of VAT, not counting the services of the construction manager. The project is primarily located in United Kingdom's UKI region, with Courtauld operating as a sub-central government public authority.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for business growth, particularly for firms with expertise in construction management within busy city centres and partially occupied premises. Services required include pre-construction advice, trade contractor procurement, defect rectification, financial management, and various trade works such as demolition, façade retention, and mechanical services. The process has engaged multiple tenders, with BOVIS Construction (Europe) Limited selected as a primary supplier. Both large-scale enterprises and SMEs could find this project beneficial, though candidates must demonstrate previous experience in similarly complex urban environments. The flexibility and scale of the project make it attractive to those in the construction management domain seeking to expand their portfolio in high-profile public sector refurbishments.
