Summary of the contracting process

The public procurement process initiated by the Greater Manchester Education Trust (GMET) for the "Provision of KS3 and KS4 Onsite Alternative Provision" was ultimately cancelled on 30th June 2026. The project, intended to be implemented at The East Manchester Academy in Manchester, sought services under the education and training category. This tender process, which progressed from planning through the tender phase, was terminated before reaching the award stage as none of the received offers sufficiently met the criteria established by GMET to identify the Most Advantageous Tender. As a result, the delivery strategy will be reconsidered, with the potential for a reissued procurement under revised terms at a later date.

This tender represented a significant opportunity for enterprises specializing in education and youth services, especially those able to tailor offerings to cater to students at risk of exclusion. Businesses with expertise in alternative and special education provisions would have found this tender particularly aligned with their capabilities. Companies that can swiftly adapt to new requirements may benefit from engaging in the subsequent procurement process expected in the future following GMET's strategic review. Additionally, due to the small scale and personalized nature of the project, small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) could have been highly competitive in meeting the trust's needs for innovative educational solutions.
