Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process initiated by UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) involves an active tender for the provision of control systems for superconducting quantum computing research. This procurement is associated with the National Quantum Computing Centre's efforts to advance research in superconducting quantum computing. Located in Swindon, Wiltshire, UKRI seeks to acquire a superconducting qubit control system, with options for additional compatible systems. The tender is classified under electronic supplies in the goods category and follows an open procedure. Key deadlines include an enquiry period ending on 24th February 2026, a tender submission deadline of 6th March 2026, and an award period concluding on 13th March 2026, with the initial contract set to begin on 30th March 2026 for a potential term up to five years.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in the development and supply of electronic, electromechanical, and electrotechnical supplies, particularly those specialising in quantum computing technologies. Companies that can provide scalable and technically compatible control systems would fit well, as UKRI values technical quality alongside competitive pricing. The possibility of renewing the contract and the procurement of additional systems highlights potential for ongoing collaboration and growth for suppliers adept in cutting-edge quantum technologies. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) looking to expand in quantum research sectors may find this a particularly promising opportunity given the tender's suitability criteria.

Notice Information

Notice Title

UKRI-5440 - Control Systems for Superconducting Quantum Computing Research

Notice Description

The UK's National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) plans to build and scale quantum computers based on superconducting circuit qubits for its research activities. This tender is for the purchase of one (1) superconducting qubit control system in the first instance, with the option to procure additional compatible systems and associated upgrades over the contract duration (up to five years) to support the ongoing scaling of NQCC's quantum computing platforms and related research and development activity. The control system must enable NQCC researchers to measure and control superconducting multi-qubit systems for experimental research in quantum error correction for superconducting quantum computing. A suitable control system solution that can be scaled and upgraded over the contract term while maintaining technical compatibility will accelerate NQCC's research programme in superconducting quantum computing.

Lot Information
