Summary of the contracting process

The public procurement contracting process involves NHS Frimley Integrated Care Board (ICB) commissioning a Community Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy service for patients in the Surrey Heath area. The process is governed by the Provider Selection Regime (PSR), not the typical Public Contracts Regulations, with direct award under specific criteria. Ascenti Physio Limited has been identified as the intended provider due to their proven capacity to meet service requirements. The procurement stage is at the award notice phase, with a standstill period ending on 17th February 2026, and the contract commencing on 1st April 2026. The service, classified under physiotherapy services, aims to address conditions with high risks of long-term disability without early intervention. The contract method followed is limited procurement without prior call for competition, focusing on the need for local health services integration and sustainability.

For businesses, this tender highlights the strategic advantage of having a strong track record and existing compliance with healthcare service standards to leverage direct award contracts. Companies operating in healthcare, particularly those providing physiotherapy services, can explore growth opportunities by aligning with public health priorities like reducing health inequalities and improving service quality. Large-scale providers similar to Ascenti Physio Limited, with robust operational frameworks, financial stability, and the ability to demonstrate social value, are well-suited to compete in such procurement processes. Additionally, understanding NHS procedural regulations such as the PSR is crucial for successful engagements in future tenders within the UK's healthcare sector.
