Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves the NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board, which is set to award the contract for the provision of Ophthalmology Triage, Tier 2, and Minor Surgery Services in West Lancashire. This contract is under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) and adheres to the Health Care Services Provider Selection Regime Regulations 2023. The procurement stage is at the award phase, with the standstill period commencing after the publication of the notice on 10th March 2026. Representations from providers must be submitted by 23rd March 2026. The contract is poised to start on 1st April 2026 and end on 31st March 2027. The location is within the UKD4 region, focusing on the ophthalmologist services industry category.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in ophthalmology services, particularly those positioned within the community health service sector. The procurement method is limited, without prior publication of a call for competition, leveraging the existing provider's competency to meet contract specifications and regulatory needs. For businesses well-established in delivering quality healthcare services that align with initiatives to improve access, reduce health inequalities, and enhance social value, this contract could facilitate business growth and sustained service expansion. Small to medium enterprises, like the existing supplier iSIGHT Clinic, which maintain high standards and align with NHS priorities, may find this process advantageous for securing long-term commitments within the public healthcare sector.
