Summary of the contracting process

The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is actively procuring "Approved Dosimetry Services" with a focus on radiation protection services. The procurement process is currently in the tender stage, with an open procedure inviting bids that meet the formal requirements for assessment of external dose and co-ordination and record-keeping. Located in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the Trust is offering a contract valued at £400,000 to £480,000, set to commence from 1 January 2027. Key dates include the end of the tender period on 3 July 2026 and the award period concluding on 1 September 2026. The procurement is open with electronic submissions allowed, accessible via an online portal, and the main industry category is services, specifically dosimetry for healthcare applications. The contract allows for renewal with options for up to two additional years.

This tender presents a significant business growth opportunity for companies specialising in radiation protection and approved dosimetry services. Particularly, businesses with expertise in body, collar, lens, ring, and finger dosimeters that accommodate healthcare environments will find it well-suited. SMEs are encouraged to apply, given the suitability requirements. The contract envisages the supplier’s ability to ship dosimeters to and from a UK-based location and manage comprehensive data access via an online portal. Companies equipped to handle formal record-keeping for classified workers can benefit from this long-term collaborative opportunity with one of England's prominent NHS Trusts, especially if they can demonstrate reliable results unaffecting additional radiation during transit.
