Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board (BLMK ICB) is in the process of awarding a contract for the "Meet & Greet Service" focusing on hospital aftercare in Luton. This falls under the community health services category and aims to aid early patient discharge and support independent living post-hospitalisation. The procurement follows a limited method, specifically a direct award process under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023, which will not involve prior publication. The contract is anticipated to commence on 1 April 2026, with a standstill period lasting until 25 March 2026, where any representations can be made by providers. The project was approved by the BLMK ICB Chiefs in September 2025, and the expected value of the contract is £139,103. The existing provider, Age Concern Luton, has been identified as the likely recipient.

This tender presents growth opportunities for businesses engaged in providing non-medical community health services, particularly those capable of delivering flexible, personalised support to aid in patient recovery and independent living. Businesses with a strong track record in reducing hospital readmissions and enhancing patient satisfaction are well-suited to compete in this space. The contract aligns with broader social care campaigns and requires the selected provider to engage effectively with community resources and voluntary services. With the intention to award directly to a proven incumbent, potential competitors might explore strategic partnerships or subcontracting opportunities with Age Concern Luton to leverage existing commitments while expanding their scope of services.
