Summary of the contracting process

This contract, awarded under urgent circumstances by the Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, concerns the provision of up to 15 HDU rehab beds at Stanford Court, Birmingham. Operating within the miscellaneous health services industry category, this service caters for individuals with serious mental health conditions under the Psychosis umbrella, as well as those with comorbidities including mild physical and learning disabilities, neurodivergent conditions, and substance misuse issues. The contract value, up to £2,470,325, spans from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, awarded through a limited procurement method that bypassed prior publication due to specific local service availability requirements. The procurement stage, now complete, highlights an urgent call to maintain safety and quality of care.

This tender presents business growth opportunities particularly for providers in the healthcare sector, specifically those equipped to handle complex mental health and associated conditions. While the award caters to immediate local needs, businesses possessing expertise in treatment and assessment of mental health conditions, or with facilities registered under the Mental Health Act 1983, are well-suited to compete for similar contracts in the future. With a focus on quality and price as awarding criteria, businesses aiming to expand their footprint in healthcare services, particularly in high dependency settings, would find this opportunity rewarding.
