Summary of the contracting process

The public procurement process for the BMAT Education Trust involved a tender for Gas & Electricity Supply Services, managed as an open procedure under the Procurement Act 2023. Managed by the specialist consultancy, Ginger Energy Limited, this tender aimed to secure fixed Electricity (REGO) and Natural Gas (Brown) supplies. Located in Harlow, UK, and tagged under the 'goods' industry category, the procurement included plans to start the contract on 1 September 2026, potentially adding more sites during its term. The contract, initially for 36 months, has the option for a one-year extension, not exceeding four years. The awards for Lot 1 (Electricity) and Lot 2 (Natural Gas) are pending, with completion targeted for 31 August 2029 and possibly extended to 31 August 2030. Procurement methods emphasize transparency and competitive fairness, with assessments scheduled for completion by 21 July 2026.

This tender presents lucrative opportunities for businesses within the energy sector, particularly those equipped to supply large-scale utility services. The contract's focus on fixed pricing and the addition of further sites cater well to established, large-scale suppliers like Drax Energy Solutions and SEFE Energy. However, the invitation to tender also encourages participation from SMEs and VCSEs, highlighting a potential opening for smaller enterprises that meet regulatory registration with Ofgem. Prospective bidders that can demonstrate market stability, competitive pricing, and robust operational processes aligned with the principles of the Procurement Act 2023, stand to benefit significantly from this opportunity.
