Summary of the contracting process

The Crown Estate is actively seeking tenders for a Digital Aerial Survey (DAS) supplier under its Leasing Round 6 offshore wind programme. This opportunity, titled "Leasing Round 6 DIGITAL AERIAL SURVEY (DAS) SUPPLIER," is aimed at providing comprehensive ecological surveys across designated Project Development Areas in the UK. The procurement process, currently in the tender stage, involves an open, competitive flexible procedure. The tender calls for one supplier to manage a 24-month programme, beginning in November 2026, and the contract will last for an initial 33-month term. Vital procurement activities will include monthly manned aerial surveys covering birds, marine mammals, and megafauna, with outputs supporting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA). The tender period is set to conclude on 20 August 2026, with the award anticipated by November of the same year.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in environmental services, offshore services, and engineering-related scientific and technical services. With a gross value of up to £5 million, companies with capabilities in digital aerial surveys, data analysis, and environmental monitoring can leverage this contract to significantly expand their portfolios and establish a prominent role in the renewable energy sector, particularly within offshore wind projects. The structure of the procurement process encourages comprehensive submissions focusing on quality and commercial criteria, providing an advantageous environment for businesses experienced in executing large-scale ecological surveys and data analyses. This tender is particularly suitable for firms equipped with personnel and technology adept at managing rigorous survey and reporting standards necessary for government projects.
