Summary of the contracting process

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is currently in the planning stage of a public procurement process for the development and supply of Under Vehicle Inspection Equipment. The contract, valued at approximately GBP 246,000 including VAT, aims to secure a single supplier to manufacture this crucial equipment, which will be used to detect vehicle defects in environments where traditional inspection pits are unavailable. A supplier engagement event is scheduled for 7th July 2026 from 09:30 to 15:00 at Garretts Green MPTC, Birmingham, UK. Interested suppliers should register on Jaggaer to partake in this engagement, with a cut-off for written feedback by 3rd July 2026. This procurement pertains to the goods category, specifically targeting the electrical goods sector with CPV classification 42992000, under public authority central government jurisdiction.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses in the electrical equipment manufacturing sector, particularly those specialising in special-purpose goods, to collaborate with a central government agency. Small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSE), are encouraged to participate, as the DVSA is interested in innovative solutions that might include enhancements like AI-assisted defect detection or integration with enforcement applications. Suppliers that offer robust, rugged equipment with advanced imaging and control systems will be especially well-suited to meet the DVSA’s requirements and contribute to their goal of enhancing vehicle inspection capabilities. Through this engagement process, businesses can help shape the final tender specifications and potentially secure a contract that spans from January 2027 to January 2030.
