Summary of the contracting process

Kent County Council, a public authority in sub-central government, is seeking to engage a supplier for its "Tyre Waste Processing" services. This procurement falls under the "Refuse and waste-related services" category and involves collecting and processing tyre waste from 19 Household Waste Recycling Centres in Kent, as well as handling fly-tipped tyres. The contract is open for tender with an end date for submissions on 17th July 2026. The process is in the tender stage, and the council prefers solutions that emphasise recycling and recovery over landfill use. The contract is set to begin on 1st September 2026, ending on 31st August 2029, with a total estimated value of £200,000. Businesses can find more details and submit applications via the Kent Business Portal.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in waste management and environmental services, especially those with expertise in tyre recycling and processing. Companies that can demonstrate a strong track record in health, safety, and environmental compliance, as well as innovative recycling methods, will be well-suited to compete. This could be particularly appealing to SMEs, as the criteria for selection include a focus on cost-effectiveness above the minimum quality threshold. The successful supplier will be expected to manage up to 125 tonnes of tyre waste annually, providing both scheduled and ad hoc collection services, which presents an excellent chance for business growth and expansion in the refuse and waste management sector.
