Summary of the contracting process

NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board is commissioning an adult teledermatology service for Lancashire and South Cumbria. The service combines SkinHub, image-capture spoke sites and Central Virtual Triage to provide a pre-secondary-care referral pathway closer to patients’ homes. It will also maintain effective triage of teledermoscopy images taken through urgent suspected cancer pathways in Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS trusts. This is a healthcare services requirement, covering the operation and coordination of a virtual dermatology pathway rather than the supply of standalone equipment. The work will be delivered across Lancashire and South Cumbria, with Preston identified as the buying organisation’s base. Suppliers would need to provide the clinical, operational and digital capability needed to connect image capture, virtual assessment and onward referral.

The process reached tender: the buyer invited offers through an open procedure under the Provider Selection Regime for healthcare services. Bids were submitted electronically in English, with variants not allowed. The amended tender deadline was 11 September 2026 at 12:00; bids were opened from 3 September 2026 at 13:00, and the bid validity period ran until 30 April 2027. The initial contract is intended to run for three years from approximately January 2027 to approximately January 2030, with discretionary extensions of up to two further years, approximately February 2030 to February 2032. The anticipated maximum total value, including extensions, is £13,400,000: £7,100,000 for the initial term and £6,300,000 for extensions. The procurement is one lot.

This opportunity suits healthcare providers with established adult dermatology and teledermatology capability, particularly organisations able to deliver a coordinated virtual pathway before secondary-care referral. Relevant strengths include operating digital clinical platforms such as a SkinHub, managing image-capture sites, and providing central virtual triage of teledermoscopy images. Suppliers should be able to support consistent clinical assessment, referral decisions and communication across patient-facing sites and NHS trusts, while delivering services closer to patients’ homes. Experience of urgent suspected cancer pathways and the safe handling, review and onward referral of dermatology images would be directly relevant. The requirement is also suited to providers with the operational capacity to run a multi-site service across Lancashire and South Cumbria and integrate clinical, administrative and digital processes.
