Summary of the contracting process

Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust intends to commission a mental health rehabilitation intensive supported housing programme in the east of Dorset. The service is for adult patients with serious mental illness and longer-term rehabilitation needs, likely following discharge from hospital. The provider will supply a building containing ideally 10–12 self-contained units and provide round-the-clock care staff. Local rehabilitation community teams will deliver intensive support alongside the provider’s care staff. Residents may require support for up to two years. Relevant experience of supporting adults with serious mental illness, hospital discharge, complex rehabilitation and longer-term recovery will be important. Providers should be able to work jointly with local rehabilitation community teams and manage residents whose support needs may continue for an extended period. The Trust has marked the procurement as suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises and voluntary, community and social enterprises, so capable specialist organisations and collaborative bids may be well placed to prepare.
