Summary of the contracting process

NHS Lanarkshire is procuring the replacement of the infected-linen continuous batch washer (CBW) line at the West of Scotland Laundry. The requirement is for laundry washing, dry-cleaning and drying machinery, together with installation services and associated goods and services. The appointed contractor will act as a key service partner to the laundry for the life of the equipment. The specification sets out the Board’s mandatory requirements. Proposals must cover two gas-dryer configurations: retaining the current four dryers, or increasing the site to five to improve throughput, support potential future demand and provide contingency. The equipment and services will be delivered at the West of Scotland Laundry in Scotland, for NHS Lanarkshire Health Board.

The procurement has reached tender: NHS Lanarkshire invited offers through an open procedure. Bids must be submitted electronically in English by 28 September 2026 at 12:00 BST; this deadline was amended from 21 September to allow suppliers more time to coordinate potential subcontractors. Tenders will be opened at the same date and time. The contract is valued at £1.7 million and has an initial duration of 2,040 days, with an option for the Board to extend it by up to a further 60 months, in increments at its discretion. The single lot is evaluated on overall quality and technical criteria (60%) and price (40%). Variants are not allowed, and bids must remain valid for 90 days.

This opportunity suits suppliers of industrial laundry machinery that can replace and install a continuous batch washer line and support its operation as a long-term service partner. Businesses should be able to meet the mandatory technical requirements in the specification, provide proposals and pricing for both gas-dryer configurations, and supply equipment suitable for infected-linen processing. The requirement is relevant to manufacturers, specialist laundry-equipment integrators and installation contractors with the capacity to deliver a substantial plant replacement and support the equipment over its operating life. Bidders must provide the names and professional qualifications of staff assigned to the contract. The procurement documents include separate economic and technical selection requirements, with suitability assessed against those documents.
