Summary of the contracting process

NHS Lanarkshire Health Board is procuring the replacement of the infected-linen continuous batch washer line at the West of Scotland Laundry. The requirement covers the laundry washing equipment and associated installation services, with the successful contractor becoming a key service partner for the life of the equipment. The equipment is to be delivered and installed at the West of Scotland Laundry in Scotland. The scope includes proposals for gas-dryer capacity: maintaining the current four dryers or increasing the number to five to improve throughput, meet potential future demand and provide contingency. This is primarily a goods requirement, supported by specialist industrial laundry machinery installation. The relevant classification is laundry washing, dry-cleaning and drying machines (CPV 42716000).

The procurement has reached tender: NHS Lanarkshire invited offers using an open procedure, with submissions made electronically. The tender deadline set by the buyer was 21 September 2026 at 12:00 BST; bids were to remain valid for 90 days. The planned evaluation and bid opening were scheduled for the same date and time. The estimated value is £1,700,000. The initial contract period is 2,040 days, with an option to extend for a further 60 months, in increments determined by the Board. Bidders must submit pricing for both gas-dryer options, and variants are not allowed. Award is based on overall quality and technical criteria weighted at 60%, and price weighted at 40%.

This opportunity suits manufacturers, integrators and specialist contractors experienced in industrial laundry systems, continuous batch washers and laundry machinery installation. Suppliers should be able to replace an infected-linen processing line and provide equipment that can operate as part of a major laundry service. The requirement calls for proposals covering both four-dryer and five-dryer configurations, so competitors need the technical capability to assess and price alternative gas-dryer capacities, including increased throughput and contingency provision. The successful supplier will act as a key service partner for the equipment's life, making long-term support and equipment-service capability commercially relevant. Staff names and professional qualifications must be provided, and the mandatory specification sets the required technical standard. Submissions must be in English.
