Summary of the contracting process

Trinity House is procuring bathymetric and topographic surveying services around Bishop Rock and Longships lighthouses. The work will provide accurate information about the seabed and landform surrounding these remote rock tower lighthouses, supporting an investigation into whether jack-up vessels and floating assets could be used to mobilise personnel, equipment and tools for future modernisation and maintenance. Trinity House is responsible for operating and maintaining more than 60 lighthouses around England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar. This requirement is for professional surveying services delivered in the United Kingdom, specifically at the Bishop Rock and Longships lighthouse locations. It will suit firms with marine, coastal, hydrographic or topographical survey expertise and the equipment needed to work around isolated lighthouse sites.

The procurement has reached tender: Trinity House invited offers through a below-threshold open competition. It covers one lot. Questions could be submitted until 9 September 2026 at 17:00, and tenders were due by 16 September 2026 at 17:00. The contract period is 30 September 2026 to 31 December 2026. The estimated value is £47,000 excluding VAT, or £56,400 including VAT. The award is based on the most advantageous tender, with price identified as the stated criterion. Bids must be submitted non-electronically. Suppliers wishing to view the full specification were instructed to email etender.user@trinityhouse.co.uk. The procurement is below the applicable threshold and is not divided into further lots.

This opportunity suits specialist hydrographic and topographical surveying companies able to produce accurate bathymetric and topographic data in challenging marine environments. Relevant suppliers are likely to have experience surveying around exposed rock structures, lighthouses, coastal sites or other remote locations, and to be capable of planning and carrying out work where access and mobilisation may be difficult. The requirement will appeal to firms with suitable survey vessels, positioning and depth-measurement systems, topographic survey equipment, data-processing capability and personnel experienced in interpreting marine and land survey results. Contractors should be able to combine seabed and terrain information into reliable outputs that can inform engineering and operational decisions about future lighthouse maintenance and access.

Notice Title

CM4 - Bathymetry & Topographic Surveys - Bishop Rock and Longships Lighthouses

Notice Description

Trinity House (TH) holds the operation and maintenance responsibility for over 60 lighthouses around England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar. These critical aids-to-navigation (AtoNs) include several Rock Tower lighthouses that require regular modernisation and ongoing maintenance. Accordingly, Trinity House would like to investigate the feasibility of utilising jack-up and floating assets to avoid repeated journeys to these remote locations by helicopter to mobilise personnel, equipment and tools. To support this investigation, it is important to have accurate bathymetric and topographic surveys of the surrounding area.
