Summary of the contracting process

United Utilities Water Limited is seeking suppliers for process equipment used across its wastewater and potable water business. The requirement covers goods for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, including aeration, filtration, moving bed biofilm reactor, automation and Lamella systems, together with associated supply, installation, maintenance, refurbishment, repair and replacement. The potable-water requirement covers equipment for treating, storing and distributing drinking water, including supply, installation, commissioning, maintenance, repair, refurbishment, replacement and upgrade. There are two parts: wastewater process equipment and potable-water process equipment. Delivery is across the North West of England and the work is classified as goods, including sewage-treatment machinery and sewerage works equipment.

The procurement has reached tender: United Utilities invited offers through an open procedure to establish a dynamic market for process equipment. It is a utilities procurement with two parts, and suppliers can apply for either or both. The buyer set the tender deadline at 1 August 2040, 23:59:59 BST. The resulting dynamic market is scheduled to run from 30 October 2026, 23:59:59 UTC, to 1 August 2040, 23:59:59 BST. Electronic submission is allowed through the buyer’s online procurement system. Suppliers will be assessed against economic and technical selection criteria, with the detailed requirements set out in the procurement documents. Both parts are identified as suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises.

This opportunity suits manufacturers, specialist equipment suppliers, systems integrators, engineering contractors and maintenance providers serving the water and wastewater sector. Relevant capability includes designing or supplying treatment-process equipment, installing and commissioning systems, and providing planned maintenance, refurbishment, repair, replacement or upgrades. Wastewater specialists with experience in aeration, filtration, moving bed biofilm reactors, automation or Lamella systems are well placed for the first part. Suppliers experienced in drinking-water treatment, storage and distribution equipment are suited to the second. The economic and technical selection requirements mean bidders should be able to demonstrate financial standing and the technical ability to deliver the relevant equipment and services. The requirement is explicitly suitable for SMEs and supports both equipment-focused and broader lifecycle-service businesses.
