Summary of the contracting process

United Utilities Water Limited is seeking suppliers for process equipment supporting its wastewater and potable-water operations. The requirement covers goods used in wastewater treatment, and in the treatment, storage and distribution of drinking water, with services associated with the equipment where relevant. The wastewater scope includes aeration and filtration systems, moving bed biofilm reactors, automation systems and lamellas, together with supply, installation, maintenance, refurbishment, repair and replacement. The potable-water scope includes supply, installation, commissioning, maintenance, repair, refurbishment, replacement and upgrading of treatment, storage and distribution equipment. Work is to be delivered across the United Kingdom, supporting the buyer’s business. This opportunity is suitable for suppliers of water-treatment plant, process machinery, installation and lifecycle maintenance services.

The procurement has reached tender: the buyer invited offers through an open procedure to establish a dynamic market for utilities. It is divided into two parts: wastewater process equipment and potable-water process equipment, and suppliers may be suitable for either or both. The tender deadline is 1 August 2040 at 23:59. The resulting arrangement is scheduled to run from 30 October 2026 at 23:59 to 1 August 2040 at 23:59. Electronic submission is allowed. Applications will be assessed against economic and technical selection criteria, with the detailed requirements and verification methods set out in the procurement documents. The arrangement is intended for utilities and has no participation fee. Subsequent opportunities are restricted to market members.

This opportunity suits manufacturers, distributors, specialist contractors and service providers with capability across water and wastewater process equipment. Relevant expertise includes designing, supplying, installing, commissioning, maintaining, repairing, refurbishing, replacing or upgrading plant used in treatment, storage and distribution environments. Suppliers with experience in aeration, filtration, moving bed biofilm reactor systems, automation or lamella equipment may be particularly well placed for the wastewater part. Firms able to support drinking-water treatment and associated infrastructure may suit the potable-water part. The procurement is marked as suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises, so smaller specialists with the required technical capability and economic standing can compete. It may also suit businesses seeking recurring utility-sector work through a dynamic market.
