Summary of the contracting process

NHS Thames Valley Integrated Care Board is commissioning an urgent care centre in Bracknell for people in Bracknell Forest and Ascot. The service combines a walk-in minor injuries unit for patients who might otherwise attend A&E, a pre-bookable integrated urgent care service led by nurses and supported by GPs, and a children’s urgent treatment clinic intended to address early-evening demand currently seen at local A&E departments. This is healthcare service delivery, rather than a supply of equipment or construction work. The centre is intended to provide local urgent care and improve access to appropriate treatment for minor injuries and children’s urgent health needs.

The process has reached the intention-to-award stage under the Provider Selection Regime: the contract has not yet been formally awarded, although One Medical Group Ltd has been selected. The commissioner used PSR Direct Award C, without a competition, and assessed the provider against five statutory criteria: quality and innovation; value; integration, collaboration and sustainability; access, health inequalities and choice; and social value. The stated evaluation gave 80% weight to the existing provider’s performance and ability to meet the proposed contract standard, and 20% to price. The contract was signed on 21 September 2026. Its initial 12-month term is expected to start on 1 April 2027 and is valued at £2,521,346, with an optional further 12 months at the same expected value; the stated full lifetime value is £5,042,692. Provider representations were due by midnight on 13 October 2026.

For suppliers assessing comparable future work for this commissioner, this award shows demand for a locally delivered, integrated urgent care service covering minor injuries, nurse-led and GP-supported pre-bookable care, and a children’s urgent treatment clinic. A credible provider would need the clinical staffing, service organisation and local delivery capacity to meet the required service specification across Bracknell Forest and Ascot. The commissioner’s decision relied on evidence that the incumbent had delivered the existing contract satisfactorily, including required documentation and policies, safeguarding, quality and schedule reporting, service standards, information governance and NHS contract conditions. Suppliers should therefore be prepared to demonstrate consistent service performance, safe clinical governance, reliable reporting and the ability to sustain access across the service offer. The evaluation also considered value alongside quality, integration, collaboration, sustainability, improved access, reduced health inequalities, choice and social value.
