Summary of the contracting process

NHS Thames Valley Integrated Care Board is commissioning a GP-led Same Day Urgent Care service for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. The service provides assessment and treatment for minor injuries, illnesses and wounds; treatment of wounds is identified as part of the St Mark’s service. Patients access care through their own general practice. The service is supported by experienced staff with additional training to manage urgent care needs. This is a healthcare services contract, delivered for patients in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. NHS South, Central and West Commissioning Support Unit conducted the procurement on the ICB’s behalf.

The process has reached an intention-to-award stage under the Provider Selection Regime, using Direct Award C. East Berkshire Primary Care was selected as the provider, with one bid recorded. The contract is active in the published data and was signed on 21 September 2026; the notice description nevertheless says the award remains subject to the standstill process. Providers could make representations by midnight on 13 October 2026. The contract is for a 12-month term beginning 1 April 2027, with an expected value of £538,809. Evaluation considered whether the existing provider was meeting its current contract and was likely to deliver the proposed contract to a sufficient standard, weighted 80%, and price, weighted 20%.

This award shows demand from NHS Thames Valley Integrated Care Board for a local, GP-led urgent care service accessed through patients’ own general practices. A credible provider needs the clinical capability and experienced workforce to assess and treat minor injuries and illnesses, with additional training for urgent care and, where required, wound treatment. The commissioner’s stated assessment also makes a track record of delivering the existing service satisfactorily important: the selected provider was judged against its performance under the current contract, compliance with the applicable NHS APMS contract, and its ability to continue meeting service requirements. Suppliers competing for a comparable requirement would need to demonstrate dependable service delivery, appropriate policies and documentation, and a proposal that supports quality, value, integration, collaboration, sustainability, access, choice, health equality and social value.
