Summary of the contracting process

North Northamptonshire Council commissioned a full occupational health and wellbeing service for its workforce. The scope includes assessments relating to sickness absence, ill-health retirement and pre-employment health queries. The provider is expected to tailor delivery to the Council’s different job roles, operating practices, cultures and risk profiles, and support its health, safety and wellbeing objectives. The service also includes online referrals, management information access and remote consultations, with the aim of making the process accessible from referral through to consultation. The requirement covers ongoing service improvement, value for money and work to help reduce sickness absence. Delivery is for the Council in North Northamptonshire.

The procurement is complete and the contract was awarded to Medigold Health Consultancy Limited. The Council made a direct award through the ESPO Occupational Health Services framework, without a separate call for competition. One bid was recorded. Quality was the stated evaluation criterion, weighted at 100%. The awarded contract value is £90,000. The contract was signed on 15 December 2025 and is recorded as active. The lot is marked cancelled in the procurement data, while the award and contract are recorded as active; the published information does not explain this difference.

This award indicates demand from North Northamptonshire Council for an integrated occupational health service spanning employee assessments, management support and accessible consultation routes. A credible provider for a comparable requirement would need occupational health expertise covering sickness absence, ill-health retirement and pre-employment assessments, and the ability to serve varied roles and workplace risk profiles. The service model should support online referrals, remote consultations and management information, alongside timely delivery and continuous improvement. Experience of helping employers manage absence and promote health, safety and wellbeing would be relevant to the stated objectives. The Council used an ESPO framework route for this award, so suppliers seeking similar work should consider their eligibility for the applicable framework and their ability to deliver a service assessed on quality.
