Summary of the contracting process

Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is buying specialist dietetics services for patients at Bowmere and Springview Hospitals. The work covers continuing clinical dietetic care, supported by established clinical pathways and multidisciplinary team working. The stated purpose is to maintain safe, effective and sustainable provision and support patient outcomes. The supplier is Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which is also an NHS provider. The service is intended for hospital patients at the two named sites. The procurement is for a healthcare service, rather than goods or construction work, and relates to the delivery of specialist clinical support within the hospital setting.

The process is recorded as complete, and an active award and contract are listed for Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The contract was signed on 14 October 2026 and is valued at £36,900. The service period is stated as 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. The procurement used a Provider Selection Regime Direct Award Process C, without a prior call for competition, on the basis that the existing provider had delivered satisfactorily and the proposed arrangements were substantially unchanged. The stated assessment put 99% weight on whether the incumbent was satisfying the original contract and was likely to meet the required standard, and 1% on price. One bid is recorded. The lot status is marked cancelled, although the award and contract are recorded as active.

This award shows demand for specialist hospital dietetics from Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, with continuity of care at Bowmere and Springview central to the requirement. A credible competitor for a future equivalent service would need qualified and experienced specialist clinicians, sufficient workforce and operational capacity, and a track record delivering dietetics to the relevant patient cohort. The stated requirements also point to clinical expertise, suitable infrastructure, effective governance and information-governance arrangements, statutory authorisations and indemnity cover. Providers would need to demonstrate safe, high-quality and sustainable delivery, maintain established clinical pathways and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams. The route used here favoured satisfactory performance by the existing provider and substantially unchanged service arrangements, so evidence of reliable delivery, integration and service continuity would be particularly relevant.
