Summary of the contracting process

Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is buying specialist dietetics services for patients at Bowmere and Springview Hospitals. The work supports established clinical pathways, multidisciplinary team working and patient outcomes, and requires safe, effective and sustainable care for the hospitals’ service users. The service is being delivered by the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which has the clinical expertise and infrastructure to provide it. This is a healthcare service rather than a supply of goods or construction work. The intended service covers both named hospitals; the procurement information does not identify a more specific delivery address.

The contract has been awarded to Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust through the Provider Selection Regime’s Direct Award Process C. The award was formally confirmed on 27 October 2026. The contract value is £36,900, and the intended service period runs from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. The selection decision cited satisfactory performance under the existing contract and substantially unchanged service arrangements. Published decision criteria covered quality and innovation (30%), value (20%), integration, collaboration and service sustainability (25%), access, health inequalities and choice (15%), and social value (10%). The lot-level assessment also stated that the existing provider was satisfying the original contract and was likely to meet the proposed standard, with quality weighted at 99% and price at 1%.

For suppliers considering a future requirement from this buyer, this award signals demand for specialist hospital dietetics delivered across Bowmere and Springview, with continuity of clinical pathways and multidisciplinary working central to the service. A credible provider would need appropriately qualified and experienced specialist clinicians, enough workforce and operational capacity for the patient cohort, and established clinical infrastructure. The buyer’s assessment also points to the importance of a proven record of satisfactory delivery, sound governance and information governance, statutory authorisations and indemnity cover. Strong proposals would need to show safe, effective and sustainable service delivery, alongside quality and innovation, value, collaboration, improved access and social value. These are the capabilities demonstrated by the selected NHS provider for this requirement.
