The Midlothian Schools Employability Programmes is aimed at Midlothian residents from aged 10 to 19 years to introduce employability skills and experiences through workshops and programmes that are built into the school day. This will give the young people an opportunity to develop skills for life, learning and work.

Employability Workshops

Offer a range of group workshops for school aged pupils to help develop the skills for life, learning and work. The workshops should target secondary aged school pupils and focus on introducing employability skills in topics which tie in with the Developing Scotland's Young Workforce recommendations. These workshops should be targeted at all school aged pupils including those with additional support needs and multiple barriers.

Business Mentoring Programme

To provide a Business Mentoring Programme to offer support to young people in senior phase at school. The aim is to build the young person's confidence in their employability potential and support them into planning their move into a positive destination when they leave school. This programme should cater for all abilities including those with additional support needs and account for young people with multiple barriers.

Vocational Programme for Automotive Mechanics & Engineering

Offer a vocational programme to help develop the skills for life, learning and work. The programme should target secondary school pupils S3 to S6 that allows young people to explore automotive mechanics and engineering in an interactive environment. The course should cater for all abilities including those with additional support needs and account for young people with multiple barriers. It should offer theory and hands on experience in as well as offering relevant qualifications.

Vocational Programme for Childcare

Offer a vocational programme to help develop the skills for life, learning and work. The programme should target pupils aged 15 to 19 for young people who have an interest in pursuing a career in early education and childcare. This course should cater for all abilities including those with additional support needs and for young people with multiple barriers. The programme should combine theory and practical activities for working with children.

Vocational Programme for Social Care

Offer a vocational programme to help develop the skills for life, learning and work. The programme should target pupils aged 15 to 19 for young people who have an interest in pursuing a career in social care. This course should cater for all abilities including those with additional support needs and for young people with multiple barriers. The programme should combine theory and practical activities and offer relevant qualifications.

Core Skills and The Outdoors

Offer a vocational programme to help develop the skills for life, learning and work. The programme should target pupils aged 15 to 19 for young people who have an interest in increasing their core skills in relation to learning outdoors. This course should cater for all abilities including those with additional support needs and for young people with multiple barriers. The programme should combine theory and practical activities and offer relevant qualifications

Vocational Programme STEAM Industries

Offer a vocational programme to help develop the skills for life, learning and work. The programme should target pupils aged 15 to 19 for young people who have an interest in pursuing a career in the STEAM Industries. This course should cater for all abilities including those with additional support needs and for young people with multiple barriers. The programme should combine theory and practical activities and offer relevant qualifications.

Vocational Programme for Data & ICT

Offer a vocational programme to help develop the skills for life, learning and work. The programme should target pupils aged 15 to 19 for young people who have an interest in pursuing a career in ICT and/or Data Management. This course should cater for all abilities including those with additional support needs and for young people with multiple barriers. The programme should combine theory and practical activities and offer relevant qualifications.

Vocational Programme to address skill gaps in growth employment area both within Midlothian and travel to work area.

Offer a vocational programme to help develop the skills for life, learning and work. The programme should target pupils aged 15 to 19 for young people who have an interest in pursuing a career in the growth employment areas.
