Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process for the "Award of NESS Energy Geotechnical Survey" was conducted by Aberdeen City Council, focusing on the engineering sector. The tender is categorised under works, specifically aimed at geotechnical investigation to understand ground conditions for foundation design. The process, governed under the Scotland Excel Engineering and Technical Consultancy Framework (Lot 6), was completed on 26 April 2017, indicating that the procurement stage has advanced to the award phase. The project is based in Edinburgh and involves significant on-site work to be completed within a specified two-week window for investigation activities.

This tender offers substantial opportunities for businesses involved in civil engineering and geotechnical services, particularly those skilled in drilling and soil analysis. Companies capable of conducting borehole investigations and adhering to rigorous standards such as BS5930:2015 and BS1377:1990 will be well-positioned to compete. Suppliers less familiar with these technical assessments are encouraged to collaborate with specialists to enhance their proposals, ensuring they meet the buyer’s requirements for thorough ground assessments while leveraging expertise from within the Scottish engineering sector.

Insitu Standard Penetration Test (SPT) to ascertain 'N' values of the various lithologies encountered. During the investigation, disturbed, undisturbed and bulk samples should be recovered at pre-determined intervals and at every strata change for descriptive purposes3. Plate Bearing Tests from 2 boreholes ( No.s 4 & 5) to be used to calculate an equivalent CBR value (California Bearing Ratio);4. Geotechnical Laboratory Testing of rock core samples for Point Load Index and Uniaxial Compressive Strength;5. Provision of Factual Report with Borehole logs and rock core photographs.Upon commencement, the Contractor will meet with the Project representative and SGN representative to confirm scope and agree appropriate locations for the boreholes. An indicative plan is provided with this mini-competition however actual locations will require to be agreed on-site to ensure obstructions are avoided as far as possible.Site supervision during on-site activities will be provided by SGN.Design Standards/References:1.
