A high level concept design (3D rendered images) will be provided as an input as part of the ITT specifications. The purpose of this work is to modify the units, with a view to provide additional bike, sports equipment and luggage storage spaces. After the initial trial of two carriages during summer 2019, further refinement of the design may be required during autumn of 2019. The scope of work will be divided into two lots( Design & Build) and Bidders are permitted to bid for either or both lots.

The design/works must comply with applicable railway group standards including (but not limited to) the following:- GM/RT2100 Requirements for Rail Vehicle Structure GM/RT2130 Vehicle Fire, Safety and Evacuation GM/RT2149 Requirements for Defining and Maintaining the Size of Rail Vehicles GM/RT2304 Equipotential Bonding of Rail Vehicles to Running Rail Potential GE/RT8015 Electromagnetic Compatibility Between Railway Infrastructure and Trains The design/works must also be compliant with the relevant PRM-TSI legislation and must not alter the existing gauge compliance of the vehicle. Suppliers must comply with all staff will be paid at least the Living Wage as defined by the Centre of Research in Social Policy at Loughborough University, currently set at 8.25 GBP per hour. Suppliers must be able to demonstrate accreditation to ISO9001 and ISO14001 policies. Suppliers must be able to demonstrate and provide case studies of previous experience within the rail industry. Bidders should note award of any contract is subject to 3rd party funding. Indicative timescales are noted below and bidders must be able to commit to adhering to these:- Lot 1 (Detail Design) Requirements Timescales - The supplier must be able to commence mobilisation from 1st November 2018. - The supplier must be able to provide an initial design package by 3rd December 2018 - The supplier is expected to be available to support the refurbishment programme as required for, up to April 2019 including any potential rescoping of the design following the trial refurbishments. Lot 2 (Refurbishment) Requirements Timescales - The supplier must be able to accept delivery of the first vehicle from 31st December 2018. The second vehicle will delivered from the 31st January 2019. - The supplier must have capacity to deliver the overhaul of 2 vehicles by 1st April 2019. - The supplier must deliver a total of 5 vehicles by 1st April 2020 Movement of Units - The Supplier shall be responsible for effecting and paying all costs associated with the movement of all Units to or from the Agreed Location including any route certification issues. - Note that movement of units is subject to route clearance by Network Rail and it is the supplier's responsibility to confirm this is in place prior to arranging movements.
