Provision of Funeral Service Arrangements for Public Health Funerals
Notice Description
Glasgow City Council requires a service for the Provision of Funeral Service Arrangements for Public Health Funerals within the City of Glasgow boundaries.
Lot Information
Lot 1
Glasgow City Council requires a service for the Provision of Funeral Service Arrangements for Public Health Funerals within the City of Glasgow boundaries. Section 87 (Burial or Cremation: Duty of the Local Authority) of the National Assistance Act 1948 prescribes Local Authorities with the responsibility for the cremation or burial of those dying without means within the boundaries of each authority. The council is empowered to choose the most cost effective method of disposal (generally cremation), though should the deceased have expressed a specific wish for either process, this should be recognised. The Council does not have the capability to provide these services themselves, so is looking for a single supplier to provide a 'Collection to Crematorium/Cemetery' Funeral Service as and when required by the Council. This will include: Collection of and bringing the deceased into care of funeral directors upon request; Preparation and presentation of the deceased, excluding embalming; Provision of a simple coffin, suitable for burial or cremation; Transportation of the remains on the day of the funeral direct to the pre-determined location/final funeral destination; and Provision of the necessary personnel on day of funeral to carry out the transportation and handover to the Council Officers on site.
Renewal: There is the possibility of 2 extension periods of up to a further 12 months each.
