Summary of the contracting process

The University of Aberdeen has recently completed a tender for the "Clinical Waste Uplift & Disposal & Associated Services," aimed at forming a ranked framework to appoint two contractors responsible for uplifting and disposing of clinical waste on its premises. This procurement falls within the education sector and was executed under an open procedure. The initial contract was signed on 5 September 2019, with the endeavour to ensure safe and compliant disposal of clinical waste generated by the university. The service is expected to span over three years, with options for extensions based on satisfactory performance.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities, particularly for businesses specialising in waste management, sustainability services, and logistics within the healthcare sector. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as larger organisations with proven capabilities in handling clinical waste and compliance with environmental legislation would be well-suited to compete in this market. Engaging in this contract can enhance their portfolio, allowing them to support a reputable educational institution while contributing to responsible waste management practices.
