Summary of the contracting process

The Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is conducting an open tender for the "Bus Stop and Bus Shelter Installation, Repair and Maintenance" project, aimed at enhancing public transport infrastructure within the Glasgow area. The procurement is currently at the active tender stage, with a budget of £5,500,000. The submission deadline for bids is set for 21st May 2020, requiring bidders to submit their proposals electronically. This initiative involves multiple lots focusing on the maintenance and supply of services associated with bus stops and shelters across several council areas.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses in the construction and maintenance sectors, particularly those specialising in public infrastructure, landscaping, or urban development. Companies with previous experience in public transportation-related projects, maintenance of urban facilities, or municipal service contracts would be well-suited to participate. The work will allow contractors to engage with local councils and enhance their reputation in the public sector, potentially leading to further contracts in the area as SPT aims for continuity in service delivery and quality maintenance of community facilities.

Lot Information

Bus Shelter Maintenance B - Glasgow Shelters

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) has an agreement with Glasgow City Council which includes the requirement to maintain certain bus shelters owned by the Council. The management of the bus shelters involves repair and maintenance (including vandalism), removal and re-location to another site or holding shelters in a secure area until a suitable site has been identified. We therefore require a reliable, experienced contractor to carry out these operations in relation to the Glasgow bus shelters detailed in this document. We are seeking a resourceful contractor with a depth of experience who will provide SPT with confidence in their ability to react to the various incidents which may happen.

Renewal: Up to three years at SPTs sole discretion

Bus Shelter Maintenance A - Shelters in SPT Area

This contract will cover the maintenance of around 2,538 bus shelters located in the following 9 council areas - East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire. We are seeking a resourceful contractor with a depth of experience who will provide SPT with confidence in their ability to react to the various incidents which may happen. The work will be carried out on a call off basis and no guarantee can be given regarding the level of work in any given week or month for the duration of the contract as this will depend on safety and operating and financial circumstances which are subject to change (For example, vandalism to bus shelters may increase or decrease resulting in a higher quantity or lower quantity requiring repairs). The requirements are for the bus shelters to be maintained, repaired, removed and relocated to another site or holding shelters in a secure area, plus maintenance of shelter illumination which is provided from mains power or solar. There are currently 523 bus shelters with mains power supplies which require routine and periodic electrical checks and electrical repairs.
