Summary of the contracting process

The University of Edinburgh is planning a tender for the procurement of suppliers for medical equipment, devices, instruments, and consumables. The procurement process is currently in the planning stage, with documentation expected to be available by September 2020. This initiative falls within the education sector and entails a substantial budget, with the University spending approximately £250,000 annually on similar products. The location for delivery will be Edinburgh, and the procurement method involves market research to seek suppliers interested in providing a wide range of medical items, from standard equipment to custom orders.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly those specialising in medical supplies and equipment. Companies that can offer a comprehensive catalogue of both off-the-shelf and customised medical products will find themselves well-placed to compete. Furthermore, businesses with capabilities in managing online catalogues and eProcurement systems, especially those familiar with the University’s transitioning platforms, will have an advantage. Suppliers ready to deliver compatible equipment for the NHS and those offering specialised services for items like medical uniforms may also find this tender of particular interest.

Notice Title

Catalogue supplier(s) for Medical Equipment, Devices, Instruments and Consumables

Notice Description

The University is conducting market research for the procurement of a supplier(s) who can provide a host of small medical devices, instruments and consumables.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The University currently spends around 250k GBP per year on similar products and are looking to award a supplier(s) onto a framework who can produce and manage a catalogue of medical devices, instruments and consumables. Most products will be 'off the shelf' with the possibility of customising larger orders or specialist equipment. We are also looking at the possibility of hosting University customised and embroidered equipment; such as stethoscopes, lab coats and medical bags on the catalogue or via the Univerisity's online shop (ePay) and it would be valuable to understand if suppliers can provide this type of service as well or if it is something that should be tendered for separately. Catalogues should be available online; which can be managed through the University's eProcurement system; SciQuest (which will change to Oracle in 2021). More complex equipment; typically 10K GBP and above, would be quoted for and ordered as 'off or non-catalogue items'. More complex or higher value items will not be excluded, albeit they may require a quotation to ensure compatibility with specific clinical needs. Type of Equipment: - Anaesthesia accessories - Oxygen therapy, nebulisers and medical vacuum devices. - Resuscitation, and training simulation equipment - Small diathermy devices - Portable ultrasound devices - Doppler, scanning and imaging devices - Physiological patient monitoring devices - Blood pressure monitoring equipment - Diagnostic ECG machines - Thermometers - Cleaning and disinfection items ultrasonic baths, bench top sterilisers.. - Ophthalmoscopes & Otoscopes - Stethoscopes - Medical PPE - Medical consumables - Medical furniture, medicines and drug storage - Beds, couches and treatment trollies. - Medical luminaires - Patient handling devices - Anatomical training models and posters - Medicines and drugs fridges It is our intention to include in the tender documents, a list of Lothian Health board "named" compatible equipment to ensure compatibility with NHS equipment, training and safety information for dual contract staff.. It is anticipated that the tender documentation will be made available on Public Contracts Scotland-Tender by September 2020. Prior to tendering for this service we wish to gauge market interest and environment which will assist us in developing relevant tender documentation. Please 'express interest' and provide further information if you can.
