Summary of the contracting process

The University of Dundee has recently completed a procurement process for the provision of project-specific sequencing services as part of the CRUK funded GO2PRECISE study, focusing on gastroesophageal cancer. This process is classified within the services industry category and took place in Dundee, UK. The award was signed on 27 March 2020, with a contract value of £273,000. This procurement was conducted using a limited method, which allows for an award procedure without prior publication of a call for competition, aimed at ensuring high-quality RNA sequencing data is provided for clinical trial specimens.

This tender presents significant opportunities for companies specialising in molecular diagnostics, bioinformatics, or laboratory services, particularly those with expertise in RNA sequencing and cancer research. Businesses that can deliver high-quality genomic data and have the capability to handle sensitive clinical samples would be especially well-suited to compete for similar contracts. The unique requirements of this project highlight the need for innovation and precision in executing high-stakes analyses, creating a niche for providers with advanced technical resources and experience in oncology studies.

Notice Description

Profiling of 360 FFPE samples using Illumina TruSeq RNA Exome with claraT reporting & DDIR evaluation

Lot Information

Lot 1

RNA Sequencing Services in support of the CRUK funded GO2PRECISE study, which aims to analyse the biological features of >300 gastroesophageal cancer specimens from patients treated with chemotherapy in the UK wide GO2 clinical trial to define the biological features that determine beneficial responses to chemotherapy. This data will be used to develop a predictive biomarker test to optimise the effectiveness and tolerability of chemotherapy and targeted anti-cancer treatments for gastroesophageal cancer.

Procurement Information

The CRUK funded GO2PRECISE study aims to analyse the biological features of >300 gastroesophageal cancer specimens form patients treated with chemotherapy in the UK wide GO2 clinical trial to define the biological features that determine beneficial responses to chemotherapy. This data will be used to develop a predictive biomarker test to optimise the effectiveness and tolerability of chemotherapy and targeted anti-cancer treatments for gastroesophageal cancer. The Almac RNA Exome proprietary bioinformatics pipeline claraT is a unique software-driven solution, classifying biologically relevant gene expression signatures into a comprehensive easy-to-interpret report. It is optimised for the use of clinical tumour biopsies. The breadth of the biological analysis performed comprising, 62 unique gene expression signatures, 60 single gene drug targets and 4,000 single genes relevant to the cancer biology , together with its' suitability for diagnostic material and delivery to CLIA/GLP complaint protocols make this a uniquely valuable and cost plus time efficient product for delivery of the aims of the CRUK funded GO2PRECISE study. A single small biopsy only is available from each patient, and these specimens from a clinical trial are very difficult to obtain, extremely valuable and sufficient only for a single analysis. For the success of the project it is crucial that the biological analysis performed has a high technical success rate and provides the largest possible amount of biological information. We have performed preliminary analysis in a pilot which confirms the utility of this analytical approach.
