Summary of the contracting process

CalMac Ferries Limited is initiating a tender process for the "Ardrossan Upgrades Shuttlebus Service," aimed at providing essential transport between Troon Harbour and Ardrossan, necessitated by the temporary relocation of ferry services during the Ardrossan harbour redevelopment. This procurement falls within the services category, projected to be valued at £380,000. With planning currently underway, key communications regarding this opportunity are expected by 5th January 2022. The relevant locations are in and around Troon, within the UKM94 region.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for transport service providers, particularly those experienced in shuttle bus operations catering to fluctuating demand and capable of adjusting to potential disruptions, such as inclement weather. Businesses that focus on environmentally friendly transportation solutions, as well as those equipped to accommodate diverse passenger needs, will be well-positioned to compete. The anticipated service duration of up to 21 months further opens avenues for sustained business engagement within the community.

Notice Title

Ardrossan Upgrades Shuttlebus Service

Notice Description

During the temporary relocation of Ardrossan-Brodick/Campbeltown ferry services to Troon as a result of the construction phase of the Ardrossan harbour re-development project, the provision of a shuttlebus service is required to enable travel interchange and connectivity between the ports and local railway station

Lot Information

Lot 1

During the temporary relocation of Ardrossan-Brodick/Campbeltown ferry services to Troon as a result of the construction phase of the Ardrossan harbour re-development project, the provision of a shuttlebus service is required to enable travel interchange and connectivity between the ports and local railway station. It is anticipated that the bus services will be needed on the following routes for round trips: 1. Between Troon Harbour and Ardrossan (Harbour Road KA22 8BZ - Troon Harbour KA10 6DH actual locations to be confirmed) 2. Between Troon Harbour and Troon Railway Station (Both sides of the railway station) It is anticipated that a shuttle bus service provision will be needed for a period of up to 21 months. Therefore, the service will be required to cover both the summer and winter timetables for the ferry service operating between Troon and Brodick/Campbeltown. CalMac would like to hear from suitable organisations capable of providing a service of this nature. The Service Provider should: - provide the ability to flex the service to cover fluctuating demand and to be able to cope with disruptions due to bad weather also needs to be a consideration. - cater for all ages and abilities and have space for the travelling publics luggage and possessions. - consider size of buses to ensure they can manoeuvre the roads around the railway station. - ways of minimising the environmental impact also need to be understood and we would welcome input from organisations who have proven practical solutions they can tell CalMac about. If you can operate a service of this nature, CalMac would like to hear from you. Following a future public consultation exercise from which the scale and scope of the service will be determined, CalMac will publish a tender exercise for the service required.
