Notice Description
The City of Edinburgh Council (the Council) has a Statutory duty under Section 87 of the Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016, to provide a funeral service, collection, or removal from any appointed place of the deceased, make funeral arrangements including booking a cremation or burial, arranging the care of the deceased in their premises - which may include washing, dressing or embalming if required. In 2020 the Council provided 69 Funerals and in 2021 the Council provided 35 Funerals. Note: by submitting your interest you are agreeing to further engagement with the Council. This PIN is for market research purposes only, to determine if there are organisations with the capacity and capability to provide the service. The Council may decide to competitively tender this opportunity in the future.

The Council would like to inform potential Providers who are able to meet the requirements of Funeral Director Services. The Council requires a Contract for the provision of a Funeral Director who can provide a funeral service, transport of the deceased, make funeral arrangements and arrange body storage where no one else is making funeral arrangements. The estimated contract value is up to 90,000 GBP over the period over four years. The PIN is being used by the Council to understand the current marketplace and options available.
