1.1. The Biggar Water is currently classified less than good ecological potential in terms of its ecological status due to a legacy of engineered embankments, channelisation and bank profiling and the loss of riparian habitats. Tweed Forum and SEPA are working with South Lanarkshire Council (SLC) under the auspices of the Biggar Water Restoration Project (dovetailed into the wider Destination Tweed Source to Sea Walking Route) to undertake restoration works along an approximately 1.5km stretch of the Biggar Water, at the top and bottom of the town, in South Lanarkshire.
