Notice Description
Food Standards Scotland (FSS) requires a Service Provider to provide a survey service of chemical contaminants in plant-based protein products (PBPP). Plant-based protein products include meat alternative products such as tofu, mince, non-meat pieces, and protein powders. The survey service will provide sampling data on the levels of mycotoxins and plant-based alkaloids in a range of PBPP (containing either soy protein, wheat protein, pea protein or mycoprotein). The results of the survey will be used to inform future surveillance plans for plant-based protein products.

Where this is identified, FSS may wish to take up an option to undertake additional tests, based on the outcomes of the original study. If this option is taken up, FSS will provide the Service Provider with the detailed requirements including maximum budget available, reporting requirements, and timescales for delivery. The Service Provider will then submit a proposal to FSS detailing their approach alongside a quote to complete the work. No additional work should be carried out until FSS has approved the Service Provider's proposals and quote which will be provided in writing. Any additional work must be completed by a maximum of 31 March 2026, inclusive of any reporting, unless an earlier date is agreed with FSS.
