Summary of the contracting process

The Food Standards Scotland (FSS) has awarded a contract for Remote Locum Official Veterinarian Services to support consumer protection and food safety in Scotland. The contract, with a value of £200,000, was awarded through a limited procurement method without prior publication of a call for competition. The FSS identified no local suppliers to provide the required services, leading to the establishment of the contract on a non-competitive basis. The contract period is for an initial three years, with a possible extension up to five years.

This procurement opportunity for Official Veterinarian Services created by FSS would be suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) capable of delivering services in remote areas of Scotland. Businesses experienced in veterinary services and food hygiene inspections would find this tender particularly relevant. The contract offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to public health and safety by ensuring compliance with UK food laws and regulations in approved food handling establishments. Interested businesses should consider the geographical performance areas outlined in the contract and the specific requirements for providing Official Controls (OCs) required by the FSS in their service delivery.
