Summary of the contracting process

South Lanarkshire Council is in the planning stage of procuring a replacement physiotherapy service for its employees, including those of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture (SLLC), Lanarkshire Valuation Joint Board (LVJB), and SEEMIS. The procurement, which falls under the health industry category, is aimed at providing support for adults with acute and/or chronic musculoskeletal issues. The council, located in the South Lanarkshire area (UKM95), seeks to explore models that may reduce face-to-face appointments, such as initial triage by telephone or referral to NHS online resources. Key dates include the submission deadline for the market engagement questionnaire set for 12 noon on Friday, 10 January 2025. The future notice for the invitation to tender is expected on 3 April 2025.

This tender presents substantial growth opportunities for businesses specialising in physiotherapy and related healthcare services. Ideal candidates would be those capable of offering innovative and cost-effective service delivery models, potentially incorporating remote and digital solutions. Local businesses based in or familiar with the South Lanarkshire region may have an added advantage. Additionally, enterprises experienced with public sector contracts and familiar with streamlining service processes and administration would find this tender particularly aligned with their expertise. The procurement method is expected to be the Open tendering procedure, making it accessible for a wide range of qualified providers to participate.

Notice Title

Physiotherapy Services for Employees

Notice Description

South Lanarkshire Council are looking to procure a replacement physiotherapy service for employees of South Lanarkshire Council, (SLC), South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture (SLLC), Lanarkshire Valuation Joint Board (LVJB) and SEEmis. The current provider supports adults with acute and/or chronic musculoskeletal issues. The Council has a limited budget for this service and is keen to explore the different models available to provide a good service to our employees and where possible, reduce the number of face-to-face appointments. Suggested alternative models to face-to-face could include initial triage by telephone, referral to NHS online information, webinars, leaflets, etc. The preference is to continue to have a single provider to allow the Council to continue to streamline services and reduce management and administration costs. We anticipate that a single provider would continue to support a straight forward referral process and consolidate the reporting and monitoring functions we would require. The length of contract, model, budget and route to market has still to be confirmed. However, all of this information will be provided in the Invitation to Tender when published.
