Summary of the contracting process

The Scottish Government has initiated a public procurement tender for the purchase of an Ocean Acidification Analyser. This tender, valued at £60,000, falls under the category of general public services and specifically involves the delivery of a continuous flow analyser to the Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen. The procurement process is currently in the tender stage, with key dates including an end date for submissions by 29th November 2024 and the award period starting on the same date. The contract period is set to commence on 30th December 2024 and conclude by 31st March 2025. The procurement method used is an open procedure, and electronic submissions are required.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in scientific instruments, particularly those with expertise in marine and environmental analysis equipment. Companies with a proven track record in delivering high-quality analytical devices for measuring dissolved Total Alkalinity and Dissolved Inorganic Carbon in seawater would be well-suited to compete. The contract also favours businesses that can demonstrate robust economic stability, technical capability, and adherence to quality management standards. Securing this contract could lead to further opportunities through partnerships with the Scottish Government and its marine research projects.

Notice Title

Purchase of Ocean Acidification Analyser

Notice Description

The Scottish Ministers invites tenders for the purchase of a continuous flow analyser for the analysis of dissolved Total Alkalinity (TA) and Dissolved Inorganic Carbon (DIC) in seawater samples for use in the Marine Laboratory and potentially in oceanographic cruises.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The Scottish Ministers invites tenders for the purchase of a continuous flow analyser for the analysis of dissolved Total Alkalinity (TA) and Dissolved Inorganic Carbon (DIC) in seawater samples for use in the Marine Laboratory and potentially in oceanographic cruises. The continuous flow analysis system will be used by the Water Chemistry delivery area within the Science, Evidence, Data and Digital portfolio for the analysis of TA/DIC samples from the Marine Directorate (MD), part of the Scottish Government, groups and external customers for various purposes. The determination of TA and DIC allows to characterize the carbonate chemistry of the seawater. These data are routinely collected by MD environmental scientists to assess the levels of ocean acidification and its potential biological impacts in Scottish waters. This information is used to fulfil Scottish Government requirements for a number of statutory monitoring and report obligations about the status of the marine environment. They are also used by other MD colleagues and submitted to national/international databases. For these reasons the quality of these data is critical.
