Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process, initiated by The Common Services Agency, known as NHS National Services Scotland (NSS), pertains to the replacement of thirteen Blood Component Centrifuges at the SNBTS Jack Copland Centre in Edinburgh. Categorised under the health industry, this procurement has progressed to the award stage with a contract signed on 12 August 2025. The procurement followed an open procedure, allowing a wide range of suppliers to participate. Henderson Biomedical has been awarded the contract, valued at £331,918 GBP, and will be responsible for the supply, installation, and commissioning of the centrifuges. The process was overseen by the Sherriff Court House in Edinburgh as the review body.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for growth and innovation in the medical equipment supply industry, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) seeking to expand their footprint in the healthcare sector. Suppliers specializing in laboratory equipment manufacturing, particularly those experienced in delivering complex systems and maintenance services in healthcare settings, stand to benefit from competing in similar tenders. The procurement's emphasis on both quality and cost suggests that businesses with strong quality management systems and competitive pricing strategies are well-suited to meet the stringent NHS requirements and leverage this framework to secure additional contracts in the future.
