Capercaillie Emergency Plan - Delivery Support
Notice Description
The Cairngorms National Park Authority, in partnership with NatureScot, Forestry and Land Scotland and Scottish Forestry, are seeking a qualified and experienced contractor to support the delivery of key elements of the Capercaillie Emergency Plan.
Lot Information
Lot 1
The contractor will be responsible for managing timelines effectively to ensure the successful delivery of actions within a limited timeframe, making efficient use of available resources. Where appropriate, they will be expected to directly manage subcontractors ensuring compliance with Park Authority policies, statutory requirements, and best practice guidelines. The role will require sound judgement, diplomacy, and tact, particularly when dealing with sensitive issues. Regular progress reporting and input into the evaluation of activities will also be required. To do this the contractor must be able to use standard excel workbook format and GIS. The appointed contractor must be available to commence work in August, to allow time to plan delivery with land managers ahead of the capercaillie breeding season ending and work on the ground beginning in September. A thorough knowledge of the Cairngorms National Park, Scottish upland habitats and species, and the specific habitat requirements of capercaillie is essential. The contractor must have a strong understanding of capercaillie ecology, the key threats facing the species in the Highlands, and relevant forest management practices. Familiarity with conservation legislation, policy, and land management frameworks in Scotland is also required. The contractor must be capable of working sensitively and practically in important conservation sites, often in remote locations, and have proven experience of doing so safely. They will be expected to undertake multiple site visits across Deeside and Strathspey, including both scheduled and responsive visits as issues arise. Regular in-person meetings at the Park Authority's office in Grantown-on-Spey, as well as online meetings, will also be required.
Renewal: With potential extension to March 2027
